Crane Dance by Bayta CPSNEWS Phobjikha 12 November The much awaited event of the Year - the Annual Black-necked Crane Festival is here again. The early morning chill is not a deterrent to the members of Phobjikha Environment Management Committee (PEMC) as they rise up early in preparation for the festival. PEMC, the local community group was formed nine years ago by the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) under its integrated conservation and development program (ICDP) initiative. The committee was formed to promote conservation and guide the prudent management of natural resources in Phobjikha. Over the years, the committee has increasingly taken up responsibilities that they are now the organizers of the festival.

Talk on Environment Related Issues PDF Print E-mail
ANNOUNCEMENT (upcoming event) The Royal Society for Protection of Nature is organizing a talk on Links Between Environment and Animal Health by Dr (Ms) Marilyn Spalding and White-bellied Heron Conservation by Professor Peter Frederick and from University of Florida, USA and Ms Rebecca Pradhan.

The talk will be conducted at the Hotel Dragon Roots' Conference hall on 20th November, 2007 at 2:30 PM. All of those who are interested are invited to attend the talk.

Deadline for Essay Contest Postponed PDF Print E-mail
ANNOUNCEMENT As we didn't receive enough entires for the essay contest on the topic "Environment Conservation in Bhutan - The Legacy of Monarchy", we have postponed the deadline for submission of entries from 31st October to 31st December 2007.

We would like to encourage more participation from various categories.

Therefore, any inconvinience caused due to the postponement of deadline is highly regretted.

UPDATE The 9th Annual Black-necked Crane Festival is going to be held on 12th November, 2007 at Gangtoe Goenpa in Phobjikha under Wangdue phodrang Dzongkhag. It is being organized by Phobjikha Environment Management Committee (PEMC), a local community group.

Black-necked Cranes arrive in Phobjikha PDF Print E-mail

NEWS The first group of black-necked crane comprising a family of four arrived at their winter habitat, Phobjikha in Wangdi Phodrang on Sunday, November 4 at around 1:30 PM. According to the crane information centre in Phobjikha, the group consists of two adult cranes and two juveniles.
