WWF Releases a Book on New Species Discoveries |

10 August, 2009 - The book titled, "The Eastern Himalayas-Where the World
Collide" was released by the Hon'ble Secretary of Agriculture this morning in
the presence of Hon'ble Members of National Council and Members of Parliament (MPs). The
book contains information about the "New Species Discovereis" in the Eastern Himalayas
till date which hopes to serve as an invaluable source for researchers.
It highlights discovery of 353 species in the Eastern Himalayas between 1998 and 2008, equating to an average of "35 new species finds every year" for the last decade. The discoveries include 242 plants, 16 amphibians, 16 reptiles, 14 fish, 2 birds, 2 mammals and atleast 61 new invertebrates.
