There is no denying the fact that the environment the world over is fast degrading with the changing times. Since we in Bhutan can still boast of a rich environment, which we should preserve and hand down to our future generations, this book is an attempt to show how Buddhism too emphasizes the importance of preserving nature and environment.

Introduction

The first RSPN strategic planning process was initiated by its then Executive Director Dr. Kinley Dorji in October 1998. Ms. Judith Brown, as a voluntary contributor, facilitated the development of the strategic plan through engagement of stakeholders in the process of defining RSPN’s Mission, Goals, and Objectives. Since then RSPN has focused its activities in the direction of the strategy. Changing social, economic, political and environmental circumstances make it appropriate to revise the strategy every five years. RSPN secured the voluntary assistance of David and Jen Bowes Lyon to facilitate this revision.  RSPN’s revised strategy was developed through two workshops with RSPN staff in February 2004. Initial stakeholder consultation was obtained from a meeting on 3rd March 2004.  This is a working document and as more information becomes available, the detailed activities and results may be adjusted.
