The Kingdom of Bhutan is known to the outside world as the Land of Thunder Dragon, "Drukyul" which is nestled between the two giants, India in the South and China in the North. It is known for its unique culture and traditions, good system of governance and rich natural resources. It has never been colonized by other super powers and has been independent although the World saw two world wars.

There are three significant events that define its historical background. Until the seventh century and the arrival of Guru Rinpoche, the people of Bhutan were known as Monpas, which indicated that people were under drakness without proper governance and religion in the place. Bhutan was also a divided into small states and ruled by various local feudal lords of noble origin. Nevertheless, after the arrival of Shubdrung Ngawang Namgyal a Tibetan master of the Drukpa School of Buddhism in the 17th century unified Bhutan under his leadership. He designed and introduced the present structure of inter-wined religious and secular (Choe-sid)government and codified an intricate system of laws. Two centuries later, on December 17, 1907, Sir Gongsa Ugyen Wangchuck, the then Tronsa Penlop was crowned as the first monarch of Bhutan.

With the monarchy system establiahed, Bhutan saw an unprecedented peace and happiness with fast growth of economy and development activities in the country. The People of Bhutan has been the most fortunate to get access to free education and health facilities.
