Deforestation 2 Months ago
I first visited Bhutan in Spring of 2008 and marveled at the sights of the mountains fully covered with pine trees, etc. besides trying to understand its culture and heritage. This entice me to make a second visit last month. However in this visit what I saw really saddened me. I see to many developments going on and got the feeling that no one cares about the environment. The mountains surrounding Thimphu were carved out and you can visibly see the barren face of the mountains.

While travelling further off Thimphu, young pine trees were logged. This is a very sad sight and I am wondering if the authorities do have guidelines and control as to when a tree can be cut and for every tree cut how many will be planted?

I read and understand that during the rainy season landslides if predominant and I am now surprise at all. I would love to visit Bhutan again but seeing what I have seen pains me.
