The Society believes that the main cause of the environment degradation is due to unawareness of the people of the consequences of their everyday action. Majority of the Bhutan's people depend on the forest resources for their livelihood. Thus, it compels the RSPN to advocate on the future sustainability of the precious resources around the community's habitats.

To educate illiterate on environmental issues, the Environment Education unit has been organizing varous forms of activities involving the key resource people for the local communities around the Kingdom. having seen the schools and monastic institutions best suited to advocate in their vicinity, the RSPN has fully supported the establishment of Nature Clubs in schools. The heads of the monastic institutions has been trained on basic garderning and caring of their owen surroundings. Through various means of advocacy, RSPN has been partially supplementing the national Environment Commission and other related stakeholders to achieve the mission of maintaining minimum of 60% of the Kingdom under the forest cover in all times to come.


Of late, the streets like Thimphu and Phuentsholing has seen increasing problem in managing solid waste. To supplement on this, the Unit has carried out various research on the proper management of solid waste in the cities that are being inhabited by large number of people. The unit has also conducted workshop on Public Private Partnership for Urban Environment. It has also published policy framework on solid waste management funded by the
