Participants involved in hands-on trainingThe RSPN provided three days training on techniques for Ringshu (Neomicrocalamus andropogonifolius) plantation and management to the Passangphu Ringshu Tshogpa members from May 31, 2009 to June 2, 2009. A total of 41 members participated.
The main objectives of the training was to i) build the capacity of the members and techniques for Ringshu plantation and preparing seedlings, ii)  importance of identifying the Ringshu habitat and selecting good seedlings, iii) ensure proper plantation and iv) management of Ringshu for its sustainable regeneration.

During the first day, the participants learnt on how to manage Rinshu in a sustainable way including indentifying proper habitats. They were given hands-on practical lesson in Rebalingmi for the next two days. They also learnt in preparing temporary nursery to preserve the collected seedlings.

The training will build the capacity of the members for self management of Ringshu plantation in future. It will also instill them a sense of ownership and appreciation of their local environment resource which, if managed proper ways, can be sustainable raw material for their local handicrafts.

Meanwhile, RSPN team and participants of the training celebrated Social Forestry Day on 2nd June, 2009 in Passangphu Community Primany School. The Social Forestry Day began with hosting of national flag followed by speeches from guests and students. The speakers generally focused on the importance of commemorating the day with special dedication to the Coronation Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck. After some cultural performances, the day was ended with the plantation of saplings around the school campus.
