Eco-tourism in Phobjikha
The development of ecotourism in Phobjikha Valley aims to create a model of community-based sustainable tourism that contributes to conservation of the natural environment, protects the crane’s habitat, conserves its local culture, and simultaneously contributes to socio-economic benefits for local communities.
This vision of community-based sustainable tourism will require meeting numerous goals:
- Generate awareness among tour guides/operators and the local people on the importance of community-based sustainable tourism and strengthen the community-tour operator partnership.
- Enhance alternative income opportunities for local communities by supporting tourism-related skills development and service activities. Reduce human encroachment in the wetland by supporting income-earning facilities for the local community.
- Improve existing nature trails to enhance the experience of visitors.
- Promote village excursions.
