The crane Gangtep returns to Phobjikha valley

December 8 2009 - The crane named Gangtep returns to Phobjikha from its summer habitat on 13th November 2009. This crane along with its juvenile named Phobjib was captured and attached with coloured leg bands and a Platform Telemetry Transmitter (PTT) on 1^st January 2006. The PTT and coloured bands were attached mainly to study the trans-boundary movement of the Black-necked cranes that winters in Bhutan.

11th Black-necked Crane Festival Celebrated

With the arrival of cranes, the people of Phobjikha once again celebrated the 11^th annual Black-necked Crane festival on 12^th November 2009. Apart from the large crowd this year, over 130 Black-necked cranes graced the valley at the time of the festival, the highest number to arrive at this time.
