The wonderful news that the RSPN will be awarded the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions has just reached us and I wish to add our congratulations to those of others. This is not only a material help to your remarkable ongoing conservation efforts but also a powerful testimony to its quality and effectiveness. The black-necked crane and and white-bellied heron are exceptionally inspiring as well as beautiful conservation subjects and you have managed to bring realization and breadth in their national value to an inspiring new level.

19 January 2011 – In continuing its tradition of encouraging creativity and building effective institutions to help address some of the world’s most challenging problems, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced today that 11 organizations in six countries as recipients of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.  The Awards recognize exceptional Foundation grantees and help ensure their sustainability with grants of $350,000 to $1 million each, a large sum given that recipients’ annual operating budgets are under $5 million.

We are proud to share with you that Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), among 11 organizations in six countries, is a recipient of the award. According to the MacArthur Foundation, the recipient organizations’ missions are diverse – from protecting biodiversity in Bhutan to fighting poverty in the U.S., from analyzing how tax policy impacts people to improving maternal and child health among India’s impoverished.  Still, they have much in common.  All are highly creative and effective organizations that have made a remarkable impact in their fields, driving significant change on modest budgets.  Groups will use their awards for a range of purposes, including purchasing office space, upgrading technology, and constructing a library and conference space.

“These exceptional organizations effectively address pressing national and international challenges and they have had an impact that is disproportionate to their small size,” said MacArthur President Robert Gallucci. “The MacArthur Foundation is proud to recognize them.  It is our hope that these Awards will help position them for long-term growth and even greater impact in the years ahead.”

RSPN is truly honored and privileged to be among these remarkable organizations. The Board of Directors, staff and members of RSPN, we invite you to join RSPN to celebrate the acknowledgement of its years of constant effort to preservation of nature and environment particularly in Bhutan and in the region. We believe that this has been made possible with the support of our members, partners, supporters, government agencies, donors, and beneficiaries of our programmes. We want to thank you for being associated with RSPN and look forward to your continued engagement with and support to RSPN. Please visit www.rspnbhutan.org for up to date information on our programmes and on how you can support our mission.

Subject: RSPN Receives MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions 2010
– Show quoted text –
