Community-Based Sustainable Tourism in Haa (2015 – 2018)

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

Contribute to establishment of Haa as a community-based sustainable tourism destination that contributes to the conservation of natural environment and culture, and at the same time contributes to socio-economic benefits of the local communities.

  1. DEVELOPED CBST PRODUCTS & SERVICES:
  • Developed and trained village homestays
  • Trained local guides
  • Explored, designed and trained souvenir production
  • Haa Visitor Information Centre


2. MARKETING AND PROMOTION OF CBST

  • Developed promotional brochure
  • Developed a travel guide book, “Explore Haa”
  • Spring Trail Tour-18 International People dwelling in Bhutan experienced tourism products and services
  • Educational Tour by RTC Students experiencing CBST products and services
  • Website in collaboration with ABTO
  • Developed Promotional Travel Video Coverage on CBST by NHK World
  • Conducted Familiarization tour for Tour operators and tour guides
  • Conducted Knowledge-sharing Workshop

3. APPROACHES:

  • Conducted baseline survey
  • Established CBST steering committee at national level
  • Established working group 
  • Developed Haa CBST management business plan
  • Formed Haa CBST Management Group and developed bye-laws
  • Trained management team and HVIC Manager
